What can I say?  I am shocked to hear this news.  Joel was one of my best running mates at Mac High.  But life is sometimes cruel to even great friendships.  He went his way with his life and I went mine.  We lost touch with each other just a few years after graduation.  I wish there would have been some way to have reconnected.  I know there would have been hours spent reminiscing about some of the mischief we got into.  R.I.P. ol' buddy.  See you on the other side.

I have so many fond memories of Joel.  We met the first day of first grade at Mitchell Elementary in Mrs. McGrath’s class and have been friends since. Even after I’ve moved away from LR 40 years ago we maintained a friendship with visits to each throughout the years.  We talked often even laughed about the Razorbacks and their woes. Unfortunately my last two phone calls to him this month went unanswered. Not going to say goodbye, rather until we meet again.

Ten years after our high school graduation, I was a bit nervous as I walked down the classroom's aisle looking for a place to sit on my first day of law school.  From behind me, in a room full of 100 strangers,  I heard someone call my name - it was Joel!!!  His face was beaming with twinkling eyes and a big smile!  We exchanged, "What are you doing here?", but were both happy to find a friend, a comrade in that new, scary adventure, that made us feel a bit more relaxed and happy.  I will never forget that moment.  I will always remember Joel as a friendly, kind, trustworthy person who radiated happiness.  I am so sorry to hear of his passing, but know that he's keeping watch over whomever enters heaven - and hopefully, one day I'll hear him call out my name again.  Rest in Peace and keep smiling.
