Debbie's brother, Louis Duane Velez provided the following information.  Debra Lynn Velez was born on September 15, 1953 and died of breast cancer on November 19, 1995.  She graduated from UALR in 1975 with a degree in Business and then worked for the Small Business Administration. She later returned to UALR to take courses needed to enter medical school.  She attended UAMS from 1980 to 1985 graduating with her MD.  After medical school she and her husband, Richard Owings, went to Boston where she did a Harvard College of Medicine Residency in Pathology finishing in 1990 as her husband did the training in Psychiatry.  She had three children, Richard, Alex, and Rachel, while in medical school and residency.  She returned to Little Rock and practiced Pathology at Baptist Medical Center until her death.  Her husband, Richard, still practices Psychiatry in Little Rock.  Her son Richard grew up and became a Physician and Pathologist now specializing in Breast Cancer.  Her son Alex is a lawyer in Northwest Arkansas.  Her daughter Rachel is a physician in training in to be a Nephrologist in Ohio. Her mother, Margaret Dean Velez who was an eight time cancer survivor passed away May 19, 2008.
